Profit and loss problem



A man visits a gift shop and buys an article for Rs.80/-. He pays the shopkeeper a Rs.100/- note. The shopkeeper doesn't have any change. Thus he approaches his neighbouring shopkeeper and asks him for change. The neighbouring shopkeeper takes the Rs.100/- note and gives ten Rs.10/- notes to the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper then keeps eight(Rs.80/-) of the notes with him and returns the two(Rs.20/-) to the man. The man walks away with the article and Rs.20/-
After some time, the neighbouring shopkeeper finds that the Rs.100/- note is fake and asks for replacement with the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper with no other alternative gives his neighbour another 100 rupees. Now, what is the loss suffered by the shopkeeper?

    sooo 120 rs loss!!!

    I'll stick with 100......:)

    Coz the shop keeper already has with him 80 from 100...He has to replace 20 of his money which he gv to the buyer.... So Article + 20= 100......

    he lost 120rs.
    Thinking that 100 is real one,he gave 20 to customer.

    then he gave 100 to another shopkeeper.

    100+20=120.

    loss of article = 80
    change from 100 = 20
    replacemt rs to spkeeper = 100

    Loss (on face)is 200 but loss would actually be 200 minus difference between cost and markup of item by shopkeeper.

    hey......loss will be of 100....
    assume he had 100rs..+80rs. item...
    then...
    customer came he take the item n gave 100..
    now shopkeeper goes to the neighbour n take from him 100....n give him 100 rs,,,,note......
    now after giving 20 rs.....to the customer shopkeeper had 100+ 80(extra).....
    now neighbour takes 100 from him....so now he had 80rs. only..............thus total loss=180-80=100
    m i ryt????/

    the money exchange between you and neighbor is smoke.... it was even exchange

    you have 10x10 in your pocket....
    you have material worth 80
    he give you 100
    you give him 2x10 and material
    you still have 80 in pocket
    so you llost material 80+20cash
    100....
    you end up with 80 in pocket loss 20 and your 80 material for 100

    so answer is definately 100... going going gone.....

    no he loss 90 rupeees....bcoz he loss the article and 20 rupess then he only get 10 ruppees from the customer..

    A loss of 200 in my opinion :D
    Step by step:
    Person A = The man
    Person B = The Shopkeeper
    Person C = The neigbour

    Step 1: man visits shop and buys an article for 80rs. he pays with a false 100 Rs bill

    Person A = +80 rs (item value)
    Person B = -80 rs (item value)
    You can foget the 20rs of the 100 in this step because there aint any value to it.

    Step 2: Shopkeepers goes to swap the 100rs @ neighbour

    Person A= +80 rs (item value)
    Person B= -80rs(step1) +100rs(neigbours money) = +20 rs
    Person C= -100 rs( false money for real)

    Step 3: Shopkeeper repays man

    Person A = +80 rs(item value)+20 rs (change for the "false" 100rsbill) = +100rs
    Person B = +20 rs - 20 rs (repayment) = 0
    Person C = -100 rs (step 2)

    Step 4:Neigbour noticed that money was false, gets repayed.

    Person A = +100 rs
    Person B = 0rs - 100rs = - 100 rs
    Person C = -100rs + 100 rs = 0 rs

    His total loss is 100 rs.

    ultimately he lost 10o currency and 80 worth item ..so total loss is 180
