A grandfather is telling his grandson war stories.
"At the end of World War 1, I was awarded for my bravery
after saving a group of my men," the grandfather says.
"You see, we were fighting in northern France and one of our
enemies threw a grenade at us. I managed to pick it up and
throw it away before it exploded. So right after the war
ended, a General gave me a sword, engraved with the words
'Awarded for Bravery and Valor, A True Hero, World War 1'".
"The grandson thinks about the story for a minute and then
says "Grandpa, that story can't be true!"
How did the grandson know?

how would they know that it was to be called WW1? it was the only WW. WW1 was baptized after WW2.

No grenades in World war 1
@Anonymous - you could have checked that guess of yours with 2 minutes on Wikipedia. The Chinese have had grenades for over 1,000 years and they've been in use in western Europe for over 300.
Do you also guess whether the bath water is too hot before getting in or do you check first?
At first I thought it was the grenades as well; then looked it up on the wiki.
Kind of like the coins that were dug up that said 32BC on them...
Pls help with this dumb question, what if the GF was narrating this story post WW2 to his GS. Then he'd have to mention WW1. Isnt it?

Also, FYI only, before the 2nd world war, the 1st one was called by the name "The Great War"
