The King of a distant land had heard that Birbal was one of the wisest men in the East and so desired to meet Birbal. He sent Birbal an invitation to visit his country.
In due course, Birbal arrived in the distant kingdom. When he entered the palace he was flabbergasted to find not one but six kings seated there. All looked alike. All were dressed in kingly robes. Who was the real king?
The very next moment he got his answer. Confidently, he approached the king and bowed to him.
How did Birbal know who was the real king?

Birbal "got his answer" - so apparently he got to ask a question. If so, he asked the six to point to the five who were not the king. The one not pointed to was the king.

He was wondering who the king was and he got the answer to that question.
I guess he said something like "All hail the king!" or "All bow to the king!" and the king was not used to react to that and therefore he got the answer to his question.
My first guess (without finding more information) is that the king was seated in the throne. The puzzle never said anything about thrones.
It never states if the king(s) talk or not. Only the real king would be able to thank him for accepting his invitation, thus singling him out.
Birbal googled the king's image on the web before he flew to meet the king.
Birbal knew it was the king because all the other "kings" looked at the real king to see what they were supposed the due and act like.
