Clock time problem

A girl buys a clock 2 weeks back. This clock loses 24 mins
in every one hour time. You set the time at 12 midnight
and the clock now displays 3.00 am and it was stopped one
hour back from now. So,what is the actual time now?

It depends on how many times the hands have gone "around the clock".

Assuming that the clock stopped as soon as it reached 3am for the first time, since it takes 60/36 min for it to register 1 hour, it took 3 * 60/36 = 5 hrs to reach 3am. If it stopped 1 hr ago it is now 6am.

for clock 36 min =1hr
it is 60*3 min ahead of 12 midnight
=180 min
there for toatl time measured by clock = 180/36=5 hr
it stopped at 5 am
the time now is 6 am

said clock loses 36 min in a hour. until now clock has run 180 min. hence 180*60/36=300 min. it comes to 5 hours. therefore its 6 in tn\he morning

I don't get it. If a girl buys a clock which loses 24 minutes every hour. And i'm setting the clock at 12 midnight then i must be setting my own clock. My clock is functioning well so if the clock shows 3am and it was stopped 1 hr back then it should be 4am. Unless that girl is my girl friend and i am with her at 12 midnight.

Let me try in this way:

If the clock loses 24 mins for every hour, then the clock must loose (24+24+24) 72 mins for 3 hrs (as clock shown 3.00 AM). That means, 3*60 = 180 mins + 72 mins should be the clock ran time to reach 3.00 AM. Therefore, the time before the clock had stopped should be 4.20 mins AM (252 mins/ 60 mins per hour) and by adding 1 hr, the actual time comes to 5.20 mins AM.

Can anyone explain how and why the difference rised between your mathematically calculated time 6.00 AM and my traditional calculated time 5.20 mins?

@Anonymous Above

Everythings right but you missed a thing.
252/60=4.20 is right.
But converting .20 hrs to Minutes it is 12 minutes.
Which means clock stopped at 4:12AM.
By adding 1 Hour it is 5:12AM now.

For every 3 hours, it loses 72 minutes, correct. You're doing it the wrong way.

You're saying that at 3:00 the actual time will be 72 minutes ahead (4:20), however, it's more the opposite. At 3:00 real time, the time on the clock will be 72 minutes behind (1:48 am). The clock is losing 24 minutes each hour, which means it's only working at 36/60th of the speed. Therefore, each real hour, 36 minutes has 'past' on the clock. Therefore, every hour on the clock, will be 60/36, which is 5/3 if you simplify it, or 1 2/3, which means each clock hour, a total of 1 hour and 40 minutes has passed. After at 2:00, it's 2 hours and 80 minutes (3:20), therefore, at 3:00, 3 hours and 120 minutes has passed (i.e. 5 hours).

In other words, each real hour vs clock time would be:
00:00 - 00:00
01:00 - 00:36
02:00 - 01:12
03:00 - 01:48
04:00 - 02:24
05:00 - 03:00

Working the other way (clock hour vs real time):
00:00 - 00:00
01:00 - 01:40
02:00 - 03:20
03:00 - 05:00
