The pattern doesn't look mathematical. I'm guessing that the numbers are the number of letters in the words of a well-known sentence or quote. No idea what that might be altho' there can't be many where the second word has 13-letters

I prefer: 1,13,2,1,6,3,7,6,4,8.

which works in a similar way.

Ok, I looked it up. It's not what I would call well-known. The second word is "mathematician".

Answer : 1, 13, 2, 1, 5, 3, 2, 1, 4, 4, 7, 3, 1, 5, 3, 5, 4, 5

It is the number of letters in the words of the famous quote which is attributed to Charles Darwin:

"A mathematician is a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat which isn't there"

so its completion is 4, 5 (or 5, 5 if you count the apostrophe)
