Sally and Wally

Sally goes to Wallys house during vacations. They play a chess game everyday and the loser has to give a chocolate to the winner for every game. Sally gave 8 chocolates at the end of the vacations, although she had won 12 games. How long did she stay there?

she won 12 games, so there is 12 days she was ther. She lost those (12 more days) and lost 8 more on top of that (8 days)

12+12+8=32

but we also need to know how many she ate!

We are told that she gives 8 chocolates at the end of the vacation which means that she lost 8 games. So there's 8 days.

She also won 12 games so another 12 days there. We are not told that Wally gives her any chocolates. If he also gives her 12 (as well as receiving 8 from her) then Sally was there 8+12=20 days.

However, it is reasonable to assume that Wally would not give her 12 chocolates just to have her give 8 of them back. That means that she must have lost another 12 games to Wally.

8 (lost) + 12 (won) + 12 (lost) = 32 in total.

Well im assuming that Sally gives Wally back 8 chocolates on the same day, since otherwise it would had been written: Sally had given back 8 chocolates by the end.

In that case it could be 12 wins= 12 days
Meaning Sally has 12 chocolates
She had to lose 4 games to have her chocolates count taken to 8.
Thats another 4 days.

I guess they increased the bets on the last day(highly unlikely) or Sally can't take them with her or whatever the reason is Sally gave all 8 back on the last day.

If they played for another day in that case it would be +1 day. Or Sally just couldn't take the 8 chocolates with her.

Im guessing she couldn't take the chocolates with her so the answer would be 12+4=16.

It is not mentioned that Sally will return the same chocolate which wally gave her, so the most logical action is that she consume the chocolate the same day. (thats what anyone will do rather than keeping it for the next day's game ;))

So 12+12+8=32 stands unlikely here, the correct answer should be 12+8=20.

gave 8 chocolates at the end,*although* she had won 12 games , that means 12(won)+12(lose)+8(lose)=32
